About
My name is Lindsay Cillessen — founder of In The Quiet Wild photography. I am located in Zutphen, the Netherlands. Each image I create feels like a silent story. Through my prints, I want to make those stories tangible, so they can find a place in someone else's world.

My artistic background
I'm self-taught and come from a creative family, so art and expression have always been close to my heart. My photography is fueled by that background and by my own search for peace, nature, and stories that can't be captured in words.
Overstimulated by the noise of the world, I often retreat — into the woods, off the path, where silence holds me steady. I hike. I travel. I learn from the land.
From the moment I could hold a pencil at a very young age, I have been drawing and painting, and I still lose myself in stories both written and painted. Over time, however, I discovered that photography is where I truly belong.
Animals have always felt more like kin than people ever did.
I’m drawn to emotion, especially in animals. Through my lens, I try to capture not just their beauty, but their soul. Every portrait is a story, every glance a language of its own.
My work is inspired by chiaroscuro light and the quiet intensity of Renaissance art, reminiscent of Rembrandt and Vermeer, where light unveils not just form, but the very essence of emotion.
What makes my prints unique?
My photography is distinguished by a melancholic atmosphere and a sense of tranquility. Each image is more than just a photo—it's a moment that invites you to linger. I hope my photos evoke a sense of mystery and wonder, as if you're discovering a hidden story each time.
